If there's one thing I adore about London it's the endless treasure collection of vintage and retro finds. London is the ideal place to find a unique present for an occasion or a retro present for Christmas, webpage or anything more meaningful than a typical high-street set.

One of my absolute favorite weekends is a stroll through the city's antique market. Portobello Road always tops my list, not just for its colourful chaos but also for the variety of items available. You can find everything from mid-century homeware to enamel kitchen tins, to classic vinyl records that still crackle with life. I've lost track of how many times I've left with "just one small present" and it turned into a bag stuffed with treasures.

I enjoy visiting Shoreditch or Islington for something more curated. These areas are home to boutique vintage shops that specialise in specific eras- for example, a store selling lighting from the 1970s as well as a shop devoted to 1940s fashion there. You can spend an hour with the proprietor about the history of the lamp or the leather satchel.

Mixing the old and the modern is part of the fun. I sometimes combine a vintage home item with modern packaging or a fresh bouquet of flowers to give it a modern twist. It's a great way to make something old look exciting while respecting its heritage.

London offers a variety of seasonal fairs. These are especially popular during Christmas.
